2004 ALBARIÑO
Ibarra-Young Vineyard

Santa Ynez Valley

The Albariño grapes in this wine were farmed organically at the Ibarra-Young Vineyard in Los Olivos in the Santa Ynez Valley. The climate is ideal with warm breezy days and cool— often foggy nights— due to the marine influenced airflow from the east-west configuration of the valley.

The Albariño grapes were harvested on August 31st with beautifully balanced numbers, 22 degrees brix, 3.02 pH and 10 grams total acidity. The grapes were whole cluster pressed. About three quarters of the must was then put into a stainless steel tank and the balance into neutral barrels. The wine in tank went through a long cool fermentation (over 6 weeks) that captured the lovely aromatics inherent in Albariño. The secondary fermentation was blocked in the tank. The neutral barrel fermentation adds an interesting textural component to the wine and a slightly different aroma profile.

The finished wine is medium bodied with lovely floral and aromas with hints of orange blossoms and flavors of Asian pear, fresh lemon with a hint of almonds and minerals. The flavors linger and the finish is crisp.

The suggested retail is $18.00.
